RCC North Carolina

Rainbow Collective for Change NC is building safe and affirming spaces for LGBTQIA+ and gender diverse children and families in Durham, NC and surrounding areas, and aims to raise a generation of inclusive and anti-racist humans.  RCC NC is fiscally sponsored by Upstream Works Collaborative.

  • Rainbow Play Dates are open to all families who identify as LGBTQIA+ or Queer. This can include (but is not limited to) LGBTQIA+ and gender diverse parents/caregivers, LGBTQIA+ and gender diverse kids, LGBTQIA+ and gender diverse grandparents, ancles, cousins, etc. Most play dates take place at a park and include coffee, snacks, and a craft. All families leave with a free diverse children’s book.

    RCC also hosts BIPOC Rainbow Play Dates for families that hold both BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ identities.

  • RCC partners with Durham County Library and several local Durham (and greater Triangle area) organizations to provide monthly trilingual (English/Spanish/American Sign Language) Rainbow Story Times. Rainbow Story Times are for ALL families - all races, genders, family structures, and abilities - to enjoy diverse children’s books, practice inclusive language, and learn how to discuss diverse children’s books at home.

    RCC aims to get LGBTQIA+ and Gender Affirming Children’s Books into as many homes and classrooms and family serving organizations as we can! We give away books at all our events and often donate books to local Rainbow Clubs and GSAs.

  • RCC hosts monthly meet ups for children ages 7-12 year olds who are gender diverse, LGBTQIA+, or have caregivers who are LGBTQIA+. These no cost opportunities vary in activity, from climbing and soccer to crafts and theatre.

  • Rainbow Collective for Change NC offers 6-8 week workshops for children ages 3-12. In Fall 2024, we offered a Gender Creative Dance Class for children ages 3-6 and an Artivism Workshop for children ages 7-12.

    We will be offering 3 workshops in 2025 in partnership with the LGBTQ Center of Durham.

  • Rainbow Summer Camps are week long opportunities for LGBTQIA+ kids and kids with LGBTQIA+ caregivers to find community while exploring self and family identity, diversity, justice, and activism through art and books.
